The first thing you’re going to want to consider for your Logo is to keep it simple. You may not even have any ideas yet as how you want your Logo to look and it can be overwhelming when you start designing it and it’s easy to get carried away with it. What you end up with is just a humongous mass of colors and designs which are running into one another, so that you are not able to find anything distinctive about it. This is worse when you’re using layered elements because you have to really focus on keeping these elements joined but yet distinct.
What you want to do is start by developing your brand story, keeping this simple and writing just one simple line or even a few words that tells the story about your brand. This is going to give you an excellent start to developing your Logo. Remember that the business story has four distinct sections to it. There is the personality of your business in itself. Then there is the type of services or products that you are going to be offering. Then you have to build in what makes you different from your competition and finally who is your best target market. These are all factors that you need to think about when building your brand and your Logo.
When developing your icon remember that this is your visual and you want to keep it simple. There are a lot of visual sectors to the Logo and this is where it gets difficult not to over complicate matters. If you limit the number of elements that you’re going to use in your Logo then you are less likely to have it come out to the point where it looks jumbled. The other thing you want to focus on is keeping the icon that you’re developing for your Logo separate from your company name.
